信州・木曽谷に位置する木曽平沢は、町のあちこちに工房や問屋、精漆工場や修復工房が点在する、全国でも稀有な木曽漆器の産地です。日々の暮らしの中に漆の仕事が息づき、その担い手や住民たちが、まちの風景をかたちづくっています。

本プランでは、お客様一人ひとりの関心や目的に沿って内容を組み立てる、ガイド付きのテーラーメイド型スタディツアーをご提案します。普段はなかなか足を踏み入れることのできない仕事の現場を訪ね、多様な生業に携わる人々と対話を重ねることで、木曽漆器産業と共に生まれたこの地ならではの文化や歴史、技、そして暮らしを、肌で感じていただきます。

また、近隣にある奈良井宿は、400年以上にわたり江戸（現在の東京）と京都を結んできた中山道の、ちょうど真ん中に位置する宿場町です。多くの人々が行き交い、いくつもの日常が折り重なってきたこの場所には、今もなお悠久の時間が流れています。観光地としての顔と、生活の場としての顔。その両方を併せ持つ宿場町を歩きながら、まちの息づかいを感じていただく散策ツアーもご用意しております。手と心でつながる旅、ぜひご堪能ください。

Located in the Kiso Valley of Shinshu, Kiso-Hirasawa is a rare center of Kiso lacquerware where workshops, wholesalers, lacquer refining facilities, and restoration studios are scattered throughout the town. Urushi craftsmanship is deeply woven into everyday life, and it is the artisans and local residents themselves who shape the town’s distinctive landscape.
This program offers a guided, tailor-made study tour, carefully designed around each guest’s interests and objectives. By visiting working sites that are rarely accessible to the public and engaging in dialogue with people involved in a wide range of livelihoods, participants gain a first-hand understanding of the culture, history, techniques, and daily life that have evolved together with the Kiso lacquerware industry.
Nearby, Narai-juku is a historic post town located at the exact midpoint of the Nakasendo, the highway that has connected Edo (present-day Tokyo) and Kyoto for over 400 years. Long a crossroads for travelers, it is also a place where layers of everyday life have accumulated. Even today, a quiet sense of time remains. A walking tour through this town—both a visitor destination and a living community—allows guests to feel the true rhythm of the place.

奈良井宿・中山道

日常と非日常を一緒に味わえる宿場町

今から400年以上前、京都と江戸を結ぶために整備された中山道は、沢山の旅人たちが往来してきました。
中山道最難所といわれた鳥居峠の麓に位置する奈良井宿は、中山道で最も栄えた宿場の一つ。わっぱ（曲げ物）や漆器、塗櫛の一大産地としての顔も持っていました。奈良井宿は三つのエリアに分かれており、上町では塗櫛問屋が、中町では旅人のための旅籠が、下町ではわっぱや漆器をつくる職人たちが、町の活気を支えていました。
現代まで地域住民により美しい景観が守られているこの地で食事処や土産物屋に入れば、人々の暮らしと旅人としての感覚を同時に味わえることでしょう。

A POST TOWN THAT BLENDS DAILY LIFE WITH MOMENTS OUT OF THE ORDINARY
Narai-juku, once one of the most prosperous post towns on the Nakasendo, connecting Kyoto to Tokyo, still preserves its 400-year-old streetscape at the foot of the historic Torii Pass. Known for bentwood ware and lacquerware, the town’s three districts—merchants, inns, and craftsmen—retain the atmosphere of a living heritage. Visitors can immerse themselves in the charm of a traditional post town as they explore local shops, enjoy simple meals, and experience the blend of everyday life and timeless travel culture.

漆工のプロフェッショナルが集う町

日本の中央アルプスに位置する長野県木曽平沢。400年前から木曽漆器を作り続けてきました。歩けば10分程度の小さまち並みに、最盛期には約80店舗の漆器工房や店舗が軒を連ね、日本全国へと漆器が販売されていたといいます。漆器づくりを担う職人はもちろんのこと、実はその魅力を届ける漆器店（商人たち）の営業・提案力も、この産地を飛躍させた大きな要因なのです。さらに、漆をつくる精漆工場や文化財に登録されている寺社仏閣の修復を手掛ける工房、漆工を学ぶ漆芸学院等も集積し、まち全体で木曽漆器産業をかたちづくっているのも、他の産地には珍しい、木曽平沢の特徴です。

THE TOWN OF URUSHI CRAFTMASTERS
Kiso-Hirasawa lies in Japan’s Central Alps and has sustained a 400-year tradition of Kiso lacquerware. Within its compact townscape once operated nearly 80 workshops and shops, supported by skilled artisans and enterprising merchants who spread the craft across Japan. Today, the town remains a center of lacquer artistry, home to factories, restoration ateliers for cultural properties, and a training academy. It is also Japan’s only lacquerware town designated as a Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, offering a streetscape where history and craftsmanship are deeply intertwined.

修復工房
座卓や家具などを扱ってきたからこそ、大きなものを手掛けるノウハウが受け継がれてきた木曽平沢。実は、職人たちがチームを組んで、日本全国の文化財・寺社仏閣の修復を手がけているのです。本ツアーで特別公開の工房に潜入します。

In Kiso-Hirasawa, merchants and travelers from many regions have visited for centuries, fostering a culture where locals and outsiders connect heart-to-heart beyond any boundaries. In this tour, you will experience this spirit of hospitality while using Kiso lacquerware in your daily-life interactions. Spend time together with the craftmasters and local residents—talking about their craft, their work, their town, and their everyday lives—and enjoy an authentic moment shared in this community.

工房見学
木曽平沢のまちなみから一歩奥へ入ると、また違った景色が見えてきます。普段は足を踏み入れることのできない工房で、仕事の裏側を覗いてみましょう。日常を彩るお椀や箸などの小物、空間を演出する大物家具、地域のお祭りの山車の修復等、その時々の仕事を見学させていただきます。

Step Into the Workshop
Just a step beyond the main streets of Kiso-Hirasawa reveals a different, hidden side of the town. This tour gives you exclusive access to workshops normally closed to visitors, where you can observe the craftsmanship behind the scenes. Depending on the day, you may see artisans producing everyday items such as bowls and chopsticks, creating large furniture pieces that shape interior spaces, or restoring festival floats for local celebrations

漆工体験
産地の担い手から直接指導を受けて、あなただけのオリジナルアイテムをつくることができる体験です。各工程、丁寧にレクチャーしますので、初めての方にも安心して体験いただけます。漆絵・蒔絵、沈金といった加飾、塗り、木曽伝統技法の堆朱の研ぎ出しなど、体験内容は、体験時期に応じてご案内します。

HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE
This hands-on program allows participants to create their own original item under the direct guidance of master artisans. Each step of the process is carefully explained, making the experience accessible and enjoyable even for first-time visitors. Depending on the season, participants may try decorative techniques such as urushi-e, maki-e, or chinkin; lacquer application; or polishing tsuishu, a traditional Kiso technique.
